Okay, so what is this? I'm chuuppi and this my new website and blog. I'm starting this, because back in the day I was very excited about the internet and technology. As for many others the recent development and especially social media just kind of pushed me out of any social aspects of the internet. And when I stopped to really think about it that's a massive pity! It shouldn't be like that. The internet used to be such a cool place to hang around and socialize with other like minded people. But honestly that's not really lost. That same great internet still exists, if only we choose to interact with it and encounter each other outside of the massive social media platforms. So let's just do that again, I'm in!
When I was in secondary school, I and my friends used to make our own websites and visit the each other's sites. That was so much fun. Having completely your own little corner of the internet to develop just as you want it to be was amazing. And that ecstatic feeling, when you found out that your friend made some big update on their site. Then you could leave some message to their guestbook, or even write in the on-site chat box.
I built my first website during the primary school summer holiday, while attending to a computer club. Well, perhaps calling it a website goes a bit too far, since it never was on the internet. It was just an offline site telling about myself. I think I still should have it somewhere on a CD. Some years later I had a site on Freewebs mostly focused on an online game. Mostly compiling some information about the game, its mechanics m, and the current status with some leaderboards. At some point looking back at that I would feel embarrassed about it, but now in my thirties I know it was pretty rad.
For me at least that era of the internet ended prematurely with the arrival of Facebook. People didn't want their own websites anymore, but a Facebook page would do. We all know that didn't really work out well. Still I was fortunate to have a small place for myself to talk with other amazing internet people in one particular social online game. (Perhaps I will make a blog post about it and share some memories later!) That's also where I learned to speak English. But people started to leave the game when I was in high school. And by the time I graduated, the game was basically dead. And so was my online presence. I would spend years just lurking, but I never posted anything. Not until I decided to make a Bluesky account in late 2024.
Bluesky made the internet fun again and now I am taking yet another to step to make it even more fun and personal. The purpose of this blog is to vomit out my thoughts in a longer and more rambling form that is possible on bsky. I will not edit my posts and they will go on as long as my brain is bleeding out the text. If I forget about something, I'll just make another post later.
Even though, I've created my first website such a long time ago, this is the first time for me to write one with pure html and css. Even back then we had Microsoft Frontpage, and so the website creation didn't really differ from creating a Word document. Well, I guess the totally forgotten word 'hypertext' was very fancy and revolutionary back then. Even with the Freewebs letting me create a more complex and interactive site, I still never needed to touch the code underneath it all. That is all to say that I have no idea what I am doing right now, but it's all quite fun. Learning html and css, in the year of our lord 2026, is completely unnecessary and a total waste of time, i.e. how I like my hobbies to be.
So I am glad to have you here with me. Perhaps there will be a comment box under this post (I don't know yet while writing this) (future chuuppi: there is not and won't be), if you'd like to leave a message. Or let me know in bsky what you think, and share some fun memories with me. Or if you have your own website or want to try out building one, let me know so I can come and visit!
Okay, that's it for the first post. Bye!
